When You Feel Powerless

After the good-nights had been said and I pulled the door shut, I heard his call. “Mom” was laced with a hint of quiver and the tilt of a question. The worry I soon saw etched across his face confirmed his tone.

He scooted over in bed to make room for me. And when your 13-year-old son willingly invites you in, nothing can tear you away. He shared the anxiety, the fear, the legitimate concern…and my heart quivered too.

I didn’t—I don’t—have all the answers, but in that moment I offered what God wrote over my heart: there is power in My name.

When You Feel Powerless {www.simplyforone.net} http://wp.me/p2v8DX-Ga

Maybe you need that reminder today?

In the name of Jesus there is strength and refuge.

In His name there is protection and peace.

There is grace when you most crave it and help for your deepest need.

There is power to break strongholds and vanquish the enemy.

“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress…”
Proverbs 18:10a

the name of Jesus is life abundant and everlasting. (Tweet that!)

You might not be able to shout “mom” into the night, but you can ALWAYS call on Jesus…and keep on calling. He does hear. He will answer. He is near.

    1. Yes, Lauren! I know that for me, sometimes that very act of waiting on Him serves to increase my dependence. It’s not that Jesus hasn’t heard, it’s just that He wants me to engage faith and believe that He’ll answer in His perfect timing and perfect way. So thankful you visited today – and yes, do come back next week to celebrate!! :)

    1. I’m so grateful, Valerie. While he is close to both my husband and I, he seems to come to me when he needs that emotional support. I treasure that, especially with his growing independence. Thank you so much for being here, today. Blessings!

    1. So glad that you found rest here. You’ve been on my heart, friend and I just prayed for you this morning. Love that you said that about the design – if you come back next week you’ll understand just how much your words ring true! :)

  1. How precious that your son comes to you toe share his fears and worries. Mine does the same thing and I feel honored to listen to him and then point him to God.

  2. This happened in our home recently as well, but with my three year old. I was able to tell him that Jesus can take away our fear and give us peace. I asked him if he wanted to ask Jesus into his heart and he said yes! Such a sweet moment I will never forget with my little boy.

  3. I loved your words here, Tiffany. They are encouraging, and that song is now going through my head. “There is power in the name of Jesus . . . ”

And yes, when our thirteen year olds invite us in, we accept, no matter what, right?

I love the new look of your blog. And your headshot is gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you’re planning for next week. :)

    1. I know – I was singing that song too! Yes, I love those soft and sweet moments we get to share. Though I tell him that as long as his bed is in my house, there has to be room for me to sit with him! ;) Thanks for visiting today and for your kinds words. Hope you’ll come back next week to have some fun!!

  4. Your son is blessed to have a mom like you, Tiffany. What a blessing that we can always count on Jesus! His line is open 24/7. Amazing grace! I’m looking forward to seeing your new blog design. :) Blessings and hugs to you!

  5. Thanks for this encouraging reminder. It’s so reassuring to know that God always hears us and that we have a safe place to go, even in the middle of the storm.

I love hearing from you! Won't you join the conversation?
