Five Minute Friday: Give

The world is waiting on bated breath for Christmas.

Black Friday shoppers have filled their carts, Christmas lights are up, and trees are being decorated. The countdown is on and kids everywhere are making their lists, hope in their hearts that their desires will be fulfilled beneath the Christmas tree. It is a season of gathering and giving.

It is a season to celebrate the greatest gift that was ever given:

“A green Shoot will sprout from Jesse’s stump, from his roots a budding Branch. The life-giving Spirit of God will hover over him, the Spirit that brings wisdom and understanding, The Spirit that gives direction and builds strength, the Spirit that instills knowledge and fear of God.” Isaiah 11:1-2 MSG

I stand in awe as I read Isaiah’s words. From a nation rooted in utter disobedience, cut off, and placed into captivity blooms all the hope of heaven. From a genealogy that included harlots, adulterers, wandering hearts, and lowly souls, sprouts He who is pure and perfect.

From the midst of chaos and confusion, sin and darkness, life sprung forth. The God of second chances once again turned a blind eye to the mess His people had made and rescued them. Our Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, OUR JESUS, delivered to us wrapped in promise, hope, and victory.

Has there ever been a more perfect gift given?

He redeems and renders us righteous. He sanctifies and prizes us precious. He chooses to love us while we are sinners. He teaches, guides, and goes before. He comes behind, sweeps up our messes, and forgives us over and over and over. He is All-Sufficient, Ever-Present, Holy, Just, Wise, the portrait of Truth in a world that has forgotten what it looks like.

Has there ever been a more perfect gift given?

It’s one we can never tire of unwrapping with fresh wonder and delight. It’s that gift that you treasure, hold close, and promise to cherish every single day to come. With your life, with your breath, with all that you have to give.

This season as we celebrate and rejoice, as we gather and give, as we rush and spin about, might we stop and be still, remembering that all the festivities are good and lovely, sweet and to-be-enjoyed, but our Gift is Simply Perfect.

And…He, more than any other, needs to be given to every one we know.

  1. Tiffany, I loved this. Your reminder that Jesus, pure and perfect, came from a lineage of imperfection gives such hope. I am imperfect (just ask my kids!), but He in me is perfect. He is our redeemer, and worthy of celebrating, and giving to others. What beautiful reflections on who Jesus is. Just beautiful!

    1. I’m right there with you, Jeanne. Perfectly imperfect and reminded of it often. It does give such hope to see a long line of mercy and grace and know its still brand new for us every day! Thanks for visiting me…blessings.

I love hearing from you! Won't you join the conversation?
